on men, masculinity, & misogyny
when men (all men: cis trans white of color poor rich etc etfuckingc) and trans* masculine people blame their sexist behaviors on the fact that they are men/masculine, i really lose respect for them. to say something like that is to suggest that manliness (which is not always masculinity) and masculinity (which is not always manly) is inherently sexist.
and that’s not true. sexism is something we’ve been conditioned to practice. but when people conflate these together (the man/masculine identity with misogyny) they are saying that their manhood/masculinity is based on keeping women/feminine people down. and that’s basic sexism. i mean, that’s sexism 101.
manhood/masculinity is not dependent upon being a shitty person to women/feminine people. that’s sexism. sexism is dependent upon that. and the two do not have to exist together.
chaz bono (*pukes*) said some bullshit once about how once he started taking T he became annoyed with women’s voices. -_- this is some bullshit to the nth degree. T didnt make you misogynistic, asshole. society trained us to be that way and once you began to gain access to male privilege, you perpetuated sexism.
i just…
manhood/masculinity can be hard and tough and all of those things. some people are this way, yes. BUT manhood/masculinity is NOT being hard and tough *at the expense* of women/feminine people.
